Birchfield Educational Trust Limited which manages Birchfield School is both a registered charity and also a registered company and as such is subject to stringent regulations in its management and financial affairs.  The Trust is a company limited by guarantee and is thus not owned by anyone.


Mrs T K Carver (Acting Chair

Tracy is a practising Solicitor and a Partner in a local law firm specialising in employment law.  Her husband David is a Birchfield old boy (1969 to 1975) and their son was at Birchfield from 1998 to 2008.  

Tracy became a Governor in 2002, becoming Vice Chair in 2007. She has been the Acting Chair since October 2016. 

Mr C Berriman 

Chris was educated at Newbridge, Birchfield and Repton before reading Medieval English and History at Birmingham University.  His professional career started as a sporting memorabilia expert with Phillips Fine Art Auctioneers in Bond Street. During that time he worked briefly as a part time sports journalist for Hayters Agency on Fleet Street. 

Since 1987 he has worked for Allsop LLP, chartered surveyors and property consultants. He is a Fellow of the RICS and he has been a residential property auctioneer for the last 30 years, currently running a team of around 30 people. 

He is married with two daughters. His interests include sport, popular music, cinema, travelling and history.


Mr A G Frankling 

Adam is Associate Director of Business Development for a specialist construction & engineering company, having worked in sales and marketing for 20 years, nearly 9 of which was with the world’s largest construction company.

He was a pupil at Birchfield from 1983 up to Godfrey Hall’s last year as Headmaster in 1990, before continuing his education at Wolverhampton Grammar School.

He went on to achieve a 2:1 (Hons) degree in Business and Management Studies from the University of Bradford’s School of Management before gaining his Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Postgraduate Diploma.

Living in Wombourne with his wife and dog, he loves hiking, is a keen drummer and music enthusiast, as well as enjoying cars and motorsport.

Adam became a Governor in May 2010 and his passion for Birchfield is as strong as ever.


Mr S Legge 

Stewart lives in Bridgnorth and is married to Julia with two children, Emily and Daniel. Both his children work in London and his son is Birchfield’s only 3rd generation boy (1999-2009) to date. Stewart attended Birchfield between 1972-1977 and then went onto Wrekin College. He swam for Shropshire until the age of 18 and has played Midlands Veteran's Hockey. 

Stewart works in the IT industry and has worked for organisations such as IBM and Oracle in roles with responsibility for significant revenue streams. Outside of work and sport he was previously Chair of the Friends of Birchfield and raised funds to deliver projects such as the hall staging and the TigerTurf. 

Stewart has been a Governor for 8 years and has an absolute passion for Birchfield’s past and future. He is excited about the future for Birchfield and is looking forward to enhancing the school's unique position in the Preparatory school market. 

Mrs C Norton 

Clare is mum to Birchfield pupil Finlay and having chaired ‘an incredible team of parents’ who make up the Friends of Birchfield for three years she hopes her commitment and passion for Birchfield is evident.

In business she has managed and driven forward companies in both the property and software sectors through her attention to detail and focus on the financial, customer service, product and sales & marketing areas.

Clare believes Birchfield has a unique and special environment within the school and looks forward to working with the Governing team moving forward.


Mrs A Pass 

Alison’s background is in international corporate sales and business skills training, having worked as Development Director for market leader TACK International. She has a diploma in delivering Lifelong Learning skills. 

For ten years she travelled extensively in Europe, before becoming a mum and setting up a successful business training consultancy serving a more regional audience in the West Midlands. 

Alison joined the Board in 2015 after stepping back from full time work. She is a current Birchfield parent and she continues to run the popular Birchfield Enterprise Club, delivering business and life skills to pupils in Years 5 to 8 and raising money for the Friends of Birchfield.


Mr J Squire 

John was educated at Yarlet, Rugby School and Durham University where he achieved a BA Hons degree in Economics and Economic History and played for the UAU winning rugby XV in 1987 at Twickenham; a team that included ex England captain Will Carling. 

Following Durham John worked for six years in marketing in blue chip PLC companies before moving back to his eighth generation 237 year old family business, Squire Locks. Whilst at Squire he has led the company through radical change from a traditional metal bashing manufacturing company into a modern lean business with operations in the UK and China focused on high quality product innovation with new technology. 

John lives in Brewood with his wife Mariangela and two sons, Sebastian who boards at Malvern and Arthur who is at Birchfield.

His interests include going to the gym, golf, skiing, travelling and watching Man United at Old Trafford as a season ticket holder.   

Mrs L Statham 

Lynne gained a Teaching Certificate at St Matthias Teacher Training College in Bristol specializing in Biology, Maths and Education. Following 2 years teaching in Edinburgh she moved south first to Dorset and then Somerset where she taught within the age range 3-8 years. Whilst in Somerset she also worked with children with specific learning difficulties and gained a diploma in Dyslexia.  Her final position was at Hazlegrove, an independent school near Yeovil where she taught for 30 years spending the last 10 years as Head of Pre-Prep. 

On retirement she moved to the Midlands to be near family. She has two married daughters and three grandchildren. 

Lynne became a Governor at Birchfield in 2006 with specific responsibility for the Pre-Prep and the EYFS.


Mr J White 

Jonathan specialises in the technology sector and has worked in the Financial Services industry, since finishing his education. Married to Rachel, the family have lived in Shropshire, until recently relocating to Worcestershire. 

Jonathan's sons, Joshua and George, were both educated at Birchfield School between 2003 and 2015 before both going on to board at Malvern College. The family has had a long and participative association with Birchfield; Rachel led the Friends of Birchfield for 3 years as well as managing the School shop. 

Outside of work Jonathan enjoys a variety of sports, which is mainly dictated by his sons’ love of football and cricket. He is also a volunteer at Birmingham Christmas Shelter, supporting the homeless at Christmas.
