Forest School

"Nature wants children to be children before they are men . . . Childhood has ways of seeing, thinking and feeling, peculiar to itself, nothing can be more foolish than to substitute our ways for them".  (John Dewey 1960)

Birchfield Forest School aims to provide children with a safe and fun environment to learn about nature.  Children will be encouraged and guided through small achievable tasks in a woodland setting, thus enabling them to grow in confidence, raise their self esteem and independence.

Children are given the opportunity to make their own decisions and take risks in a controlled and secure environment.  The activities will help them to acquire new skills which are challenging and exciting whilst still remaining safe.
